Large deployments#

This documentation applies to Piler enterprise edition 2.2.4+

Revision #1

Publication date: 2026-OCT-18

How to plan and run Piler for a large organization or a service provider: tens of thousands of users or more, usually many tenants, on several nodes, with a disaster recovery site.

  1. Architecture and high availability: the layout of a site, worker and UI nodes, the encryption key, protecting the workers, storage.
  2. Disaster recovery: a second site that receives every email as well.
  3. Backup and recovery: what to back up on each node, and in what order.
  4. Sizing: storage per million emails, semantic search, nodes.
  5. Mail server integration: sending every email to the archive, with its Bcc recipients (Postfix, Axigen).
  6. Planning checklist: the questions to answer before sizing and a proof of concept.

Piler is deployed with Docker Compose on virtual machines. Kubernetes is not supported.
